Themes Instructional Design One of the main thrusts of the MSET program is to enable educators to be aware of and be put into a position to apply technology to their specific classroom situations. I believe this is the key in my own classroom. I have tried to use the technology we have available at Estelline HS to enhance learning across the curriculum. I have applied ethnology to my art, advanced biology and technology curriculums. MSET has shown me that I may need to do more or be aware of what’s new and upcoming as well as what seems to more a more viable solution in certain situations than others. Many of the items I have engaged in will better assist me in my classroom foundations of applying such things as multimedia skills to multi-faceted projects, how to interpret research data and how to better equip students for the education times ahead with such concepts as distance learning, online deliveries and 1 to 1 computing. Integrating systematic design, different instructional theories and real would applications to match my students abilities will also be of utmost importance. Finally, the one concept that I can relay to the students is the paramount need to be adaptable and willing to change to meet the needs of society.
Technology Leadership Technology leadership is an integral part of program at Estelline HS. One of the reasons I enrolled in the MSET program at DSU was the further enhance that portion of my educational career. Even though I am not in an official leadership position such as tech coordinator, I have tried to implement new technologies into my classroom as much as possible. MSET has been an encouraging factor for me to keep current with the ever changing technologies that are available to enhance education. I have been inspired by the variety of professors involved with the MSET program that are implanting new technologies into their units to deliver content that makes the educational process as efficient and flexible as possible. This has been a great way to present the opportunity for educators to be involved in a post bachelor’s degree program. The range of experience and disciplines represented were a very good example of technology leadership in action. This is what the face of education should look like today. As I continue on my own educational path, I will make a concerted effort to implement new and existing technologies in the classroom. I will also try to embrace the changes that are coming, not just for change sake, but to expose the students to as many experiences as possible. My goal with the students has been and will continue to be to foster the ability to change and adapt while teaching them how to apply and think critically. One other leadership area I hope to present to the students is the experience of using industry standard hardware and software products so that when they get to the next level they have those experiences and may be ready to assume leaderships positions themselves.
Technology Integration: This was a major focus for my program as I have always had the desire to try to enhance my educational practices by utilizing the most current technology available. I have also had a desire to be on the cutting edge when fiscally possible and I have tried to keep up with the ever changing landscape we call technology. I have found that one must pick certain areas of specialization; otherwise, it is just too easy to get bogged down. Technology can be a great tool, but if not properly utilized, it can be a monetary fiasco. This is the downside of trying to be on the cutting edge of technology. So, we must be prudent in our use of technology and the following questions still remain:
